Student Assistantship
Each semester a group of students assist in:
The circulation area: by
- Checking the borrower’s ID to make sure that the person is currently enrolled at HU.
- Lending, renewing and returning books according to set rules.
- Shelving books and periodicals.
- Assisting borrowers to find books.
Shelf-reading: Some students help in shelf-reading. They check for misplaced books and put them back in order where they belong.
Typing book labels: A few students help in the processing of books and periodicals by typing labels and cards whenever needed.
In addition to the above mentioned duties, students may lend a hand in preparing periodicals for binding purposes, repairing books and making yearly inventory of catalogued items.
As a student assistant you have to bear the following in mind:
- Coming on time is of utmost importance as the circulation desk should not be left unattended.
- Only library staff and student assistants who are on duty are allowed behind the circulation desk.
- The hours you are on duty are meant entirely for work. If there is no work, you are permitted to study.
- In case you will be absent from work, notify one of the library staff beforehand and state your reason.
- Avoid group studying or long private conversations with your friends.
- You are not allowed to reserve or borrow books for other students.
- Check the borrower’s ID no. in the computer to make sure that the person is currently enrolled at HU. Then follow the standard lending procedure.
- Alumni and non-Haigazian borrowers should be referred to the librarian
