Adult Education Program Frequently Asked Questions


What classes does the Adult Education Program offer?
- The Business Training Center offers business training sessions and Project Management preparation courses. Also, starting in November 2010: a series of short workshops (2 to 5 hours)
- 'Lifestyles & Social Issues' offers general interest workshops and courses.
- A ‘TOEFL Preparation’ course is offered each semester.

Who can join the classes?
- The Business Training Center: People 20 or older who have good English.
- Lifestyles & Social Issues: People 18 or older.
- TOEFL Preparation course: Students with one of the exam scores below:
     450 to 499 on the Paper-based (Institutional) TOEFL
        OR
     45 to 60 on the Internet-based TOEFL
        OR
     The equivalent on another English exam

What language is used in the classes?
- The Business Training Center:  English
- Lifestyles & Social Issues:  Usually English
- TOEFL Preparation Course:  English

Do I need to have a university degree to join the Business Training Center?
No.  We do not require any educational diploma or degree.

Are there any entrance exams?
The Business Training Center and 'Lifestyles & Social Issues':
 - No.  However, people applying to the Business Training Center will be interviewed if their English  seems weak.

When do new classes begin?
Business training sessions and Lifestyles & Social Issues
- New classes begin 6 times a year:
   • late September/early October
   • mid-November
   • early January
   • mid-February
   • early April
   • mid-May

Project Management Preparation Courses
- New classes begin 4 times a year:
   • mid- October
   • early January
   • mid-March
   • early May

TOEFL Preparation Course
- New classes begin 3 times a year:
   • Fall Semester:  mid-October
   • Spring Semester:  early March
   • Summer Session:  early July

What time are classes and how long do they take?
The Business Training Center:
- Classes are in the evening, usually from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Most classes meet once or twice a week. - It usually takes 5 or 6 weeks to complete a business training session. Project Management courses take 6 weeks (CAPM®) or 9 weeks (PMP®).

Lifestyles & Social Issues:
- Classes are in the evening, usually starting at 6:00 or 6:30 p.m. The length of workshops and courses varies.

TOEFL Preparation course:
- Classes meet 5 days a week from Monday to Friday in the morning or afternoon.
- Fall and Spring Semesters: 3 hours/day, 8 weeks
- Summer Session: 4 hours/day, 6 weeks

How much are the tuition fees?
Business training sessions:
  10-hour training session: 150,000 LBP
  12-hour training session:  175,000 LBP
  15-hour training session: 210,000 LBP
  20-hour training session: 270,000 LBP

Project Management preparation courses:
- Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM®):    700,000 LBP
- Project Management Professional (PMP®)                    1,100,000 LBP

Lifestyles & Social Issues:
- Fees vary

TOEFL Preparation Course:   975,000 LBP

What certificates and diplomas are available?
Business training sessions:
- A Certificate of Performance is granted at the end of each training session to participants who complete all the requirements.

Project Management courses:
- A Certificate of Attendance is granted at the end of each Project Management course to participants who fulfill the attendance requirements.

   • Human Resources Professional Diploma  
   • Diploma of Professional Sales
   • Diploma of Professional Marketing and Customer Relationship Management
   • Diploma of Professional Management
   • The Complete Professionalism Toolkit
   • Diploma of Basic Accounting
   • Diploma of Accounting for Non-accountants

Lifestyles & Social Issues:
- A certificate of attendance is granted at the end of a workshop or course upon request.

Will a diploma from the Business Training Center be recognized by the regular degree programs of Haigazian University? by the Ministry of Education?
- The Adult Education Program's training sessions, courses, and workshops are non-credit; they are not part of the regular degree programs of the university.
- The Ministry of Education will authenticate certificates and diplomas from the Adult Education Program.

If I complete the ‘TOEFL Preparation’ course, will I be accepted as a regular student at Haigazian University?
- After completing the TOEFL course, students will write the TOEFL exam. They need to obtain the score that HU requires of all students for acceptance by the university.

Who are the instructors?
The Business Training Center and 'Lifestyles & Social Issues':
- The instructors are professionals who work in the fields that they teach.  Most are also experienced trainers.

TOEFL Preparation Course:
- The instructors are experienced teachers of English, including preparation for the TOEFL exam.

Where and when can I register?
Where - In the Lifelong Learning office (College Building, room 204) at Haigazian University, Mexique Street, Kantari, Beirut

When - Monday to Friday, 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. and 3:00-6:30 p.m.
