What does the In-service Teacher Training Program offer?
- The In-service Teacher Training Certificate Program, which offers courses for preschool and elementary teachers to help them upgrade their teaching. By successfully completing six courses, participants can obtain the 'In-service Teacher Training Certificate'.
N.B. In October 2012 this program will be replaced by a new program.
- The Diploma for Coordinators and Division Heads Program, which offers courses for coordinators, division heads, other administrator, or teacher with at least three years’ experience teaching in a school. By successfully completing five courses, participants can obtain the 'Diploma for Coordinators and Division Heads'.
- The Diploma of Special Education Fundamentals Program, which offers two modules for people with classroom experience as regular teachers, special education teachers, or assistant teachers and people with experience working in a center for special needs children. By completing two modules, participants can obtain the 'Diploma of Special Education Fundamentals'.
- Workshops at Haigazian University for school teachers of all levels
- On-site workshops for schools, tailored to their needs
Who can attend?
In-service Teacher Training Certificate Program: People with experience teaching in a classroom setting. The program is designed for teachers of preschool/KG and elementary classes.
Diploma for Coordinators and Division Heads Program: Coordinators, division heads, other administrators, or teachers with at least three years’ experience teaching in a school
Diploma of Special Education Fundamentals Program: People with classroom experience as regular teachers, special education teachers, or assistant teachers and people with experience working in a center for special needs children. (In special cases we will accept people who have worked on an individual basis with special needs children.)
Workshops: People with experience teaching in a classroom setting and university students currently studying for a degree in education
Do I need a university degree to join the In-service Teacher Training Program?
No. We do not require any educational diploma or degree.
What language is used in the courses and workshops?
English, except in courses or workshops for teachers of Arabic
Are there any entrance exams?
No. However, participants must have good English for courses and modules.
When do new classes begin?
The Certificate Program and Diploma Programs follow a semester system.
- Fall Semester courses: Begin early November, finish late January
- Spring Semester courses: Begin early March, finish late May
- Summer Session courses: Begin early July, finish early August
Most workshops are 4 hours.
- Fall Semester workshops: Three Saturdays in November/December
- Spring Semester workshops: Three Saturdays in March
- Summer Session workshops: Tuesdays and Thursdays between early July and early August
What time are courses given and how long do they take?
Courses are 30 hours. Modules (Special Education Fundamentals) are 26 hours.
- Fall and Spring Semesters: Each course or module is offered two days a week, usually from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. or 4:30 to 6:00 p.m.
- Summer Session: Each course or module is usually offered on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday either from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. or from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
What are the fees?
Course:
Registration fee 25,000 LBP
Tuition fee 225,000 LBP
Total 250,000 LBP
Module (Special Education Fundamentals):
Registration fee 25,000 LBP
Tuition fee 300,000 LBP
Total 325,000 LBP
Workshop:
A 4-hour workshop varies from 70,000 to 90,000 LBP
What certificates are available?
The In-service Teacher Training Certificate Program:
- An attestation is granted at the end of each course successfully completed.
- The 'In-service Teacher Training Certificate' is granted to those who successfully complete six courses (3 compulsory, 3 optional). There is a graduation ceremony.
N.B. As the Certificate Program will be replaced in October 2012, only teachers who started before February 2012 are eligible for the Certificate.)
The Diploma for Coordinators and Division Heads Program:
- A certificate is granted at the end of each course successfully completed.
- The 'Diploma for Coordinators and Division Heads' is granted to those who successfully complete five courses. There is a graduation ceremony.
The Diploma of Special Education Fundamentals Program:
- A certificate is granted at the end of each module completed.
- The 'Diploma of Special Education Fundamentals' is granted to those who complete two modules.
Workshops:
- A certificate of attendance is granted at the end of each workshop.
Are the 'In-service Teacher Training Certificate' and the 'Diploma for Coordinators and Division Heads' recognized by the regular degree programs of Haigazian University? by the Ministry of Education?
- The In-service Teacher Training Program's courses and modules are non-credit. They are not part of the regular degree programs of Haigazian University.
- The Ministry of Education will authenticate the 'In-service Teacher Training Certificate', the 'Diploma for Coordinators and Division Heads', and the 'Diploma of Special Education Fundamentals'.
