An Afternoon of Fellowship in Recognition of Veteran Faculty
On June 3, 2013, during a nice spring afternoon, faculty and staff gathered in the beautiful surroundings of the Mugar garden, to thank 4 veteran faculty members, for their long years of unwavering service at Haigazian University.
The program opened with the welcoming remarks of Dean of Arts and Sciences, Dr. Arda Ekmekji, who considered the 4 members as “chronologically and academically endowed”. “Though those veteran faculty members reached their retirement age, they will still serve the University mentally, spiritually and physically”, Ekmekji stated.
Dr. Sona Jerejian was presented by Dean of Business Administration and Economics, Dr. Fadi Asrawi, who introduced her as the most looked after advisor for graduate students. Dr. Jerejian has worked as a consultant in numerous prestigious organizations and NGOs, and is been serving in the department of Business for 16 years.
Chairman of the Faculty of Sciences, Dr. Nadim Hassoun, presented Dr. Hratch Barsoumian as the pillar of the Physics Department. Barsoumian has played an instrumental role in upgrading the labs of the University into digital electronic laboratories. Barsoumian is been serving Haigazian University for 27 years.
Chair of the Social and Behavioral Sciences, Dr. Basma Faour shared Mrs. Frieda Abs’ 22 years of career in the Social Work Department. Mrs. Abs has developed, shaped and polished the Social Work degree and elevated the program to meet national and international standards. Mrs. Abs was and still is an active person in her publications and community work.
Last but not least, Mrs. Roubina Artinian was presented by Dean Ekmekji on behalf of the Faculty of Humanities. Since 1982, Mrs. Artinian has brought her input in the departments of English, Music and Armenian, and served as the registrar of the University for 9 years. She passionately leads the Classical Music Club until to date.
In a nice gesture of appreciation and gratefulness, University President, Rev. Dr. Paul Haidostian acknowledged the wholehearted and unwavering efforts of the 4 faculty members for their long years of service. Haidostian considered that their thoughts and seeds were well planted in many generations of youth, which constitute the real source of satisfaction.
The program was musically animated by student Nanor Madjarian, and the event was culminated with the distribution of service shields and cutting of a celebratory cake around a reception.
