On the Occasion of International Women’s Day, and under the high patronage of H.E Angelina Eichhorst, Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Lebanon, opened the collective art exhibition entitled “Women: Inspirations & Expressions”, on Wednesday, March 5 2014, at the Haigazian University Art Center, the Matossian Gallery.
The event started with the welcoming address of the University’s Public Relations Director, Mrs. Mira Yardemian, who reminded the distinguished guests of the substantial importance of this occasion throughout the world, and the significant progress in women’s rights since its proclamation date by the UN’s General Assembly in 1977. Yardemian further stated that, “in the face of the ever-present challenges in achieving further equality and opportunity towards the realization of women’s full potentials, women across our region have ventured in the fields of literature, science, business, politics, and art.”
Mr. Marcello Mori, First Counselor and Head of Sustainable Development Studies at the Delegation of the European Union to Lebanon, representing Ambassador Eichhorst, shared his sincere delight to celebrate the International Women’s Day at Haigazian University. Mr. Mori applauded the five prominent women artists for their exceptional talent, wishing them luck and further accomplishments.
A capacity audience which included, the Dutch Ambassador, Mrs. Esther Somsen, and Mr.Vartan Atamian, First Secretary of the Armenian Embassy, gathered to admire the 55 innovative works displayed in the gallery, featuring paintings and sculptures of different sizes and distinctive styles, created by five artists; Haibat Bawab, fine arts coordinator at the American University of Science & Technology, Oruba Deeb, an award-winning artist and sculptor, Doreen Khanamirian El-Zein, a talented artist in both sculptures and paintings, Joanna-Janet Hagopian, former director of Hamazkayin’s paintings department, and Aida Halloum, an art instructor at the Technical Official School in Ersal.
“Women: Inspirations & Expressions” is in course until Saturday, March 15, 2014, from 10:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M., excluding Sundays.
