Haigazian University celebrated its 60th Anniversary in Armenia, through a vast array of prominent events, which took place from November 3 – 9, 2015. The intensive program, which included visits and meetings with officials, press interviews, University alumni, and academic book launches, was culminated with the dedication of the 2015 edition of the Haigazian Armenological Review (HAR).
During an official visit paid to the President of the Republic Serzh Sargsyan, Haigazian University President, Rev. Paul Haidostian expressed his thankfulness towards the consistent policy of reinforcing Armenia-Diaspora ties. Sargsyan highly valued the mutual cooperation of Haigazian University and Armenian educational institutions, seeing an even bigger potential of utilizing those ties at a full scale.
The highlight of the Anniversary included the dedication of the 35th volume (2015 edition) of the Haigazian Armenological Review (HAR), a 945 pages of research on the Armenian Genocide. The event which took place at the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) was supported by the Minister of the Diaspora, Mrs. Hranush Hagopian, and attended by the leadership of the academy itself, the Yerevan State University (YSU), the Armenian Missionary Association of America (AMAA), and numerous prestigious institutes in the country. The importance and value of such a review in strengthening the mutual intellectual activities and research on Armenological issues between the Diaspora and Armenia, was underlined by Dr. Antranig Dakessian, Executive Secretary of the HAR and Director of the Armenian Diaspora Research Center (ADRS) at Haigazian University. The event was concluded with the exchange of appreciation awards between Haigazian University, the Ministry of Diaspora, the Yerevan State University, and the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia.
In addition to a lecture on the “Current Challenges Faced by Lebanon and the Evolvement of the Armenian Community in the Country”, delivered at the Diplomatic School of Armenia, Haidostian met with a group of Haigazian University graduates, former students, and interns residing in Yerevan. It was a perfect opportunity to discuss the news and the needs of the University and reflect upon the challenges of education, value systems, and the necessity of leadership training for the future generations.
