India – Where the Past Meets the Future

On Apr 14, 2016, Haigazian University, presented a talk by H.E. Anita Nayar, the Indian Ambassador to Lebanon, on “India – Where the Past Meets the Future”.
The event, which also featured Indian food, was attended by University President, Rev. Dr. Paul Haidostian, members of the University Board of Trustees and other distinguished guests.
The program began with a song from the 1950's film "Shree 420" which anticipated the strength of nationalism despite globalization, and another song about the beauty of the land of one's birth. This was followed by a dance performance of classical Bharatanatyam dance, which demonstrated how those classical steps could be fused with the Bollywood music of today.
Ambassador Nayar then spoke on “India – Where The Past Meets The Future”, highlighting on the fact that in most countries, the past has either been superseded (Ancient Egypt, Greece, Rome) or still is dominant; but in India, the ancient traditions are still part of the daily life, though they have been modernized and adapted to the trends of the future; moreover, many of the traditions, such as Yoga are now being seen as the future.
The event concluded with an extended Q&A session.
