MISSING PERSONS: A humanitarian approach

On May 13, 2016, the Social and Behavioral Sciences Society (SBSS) organized its last activity for this academic year in cooperation with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), on the psycho-social support services provided by the ICRC to families of missing persons.
The event was introduced by SBS graduating student Koharique Balekdjian, followed by a concise presentation of the mission and main activities of ICRC by Ms. Rabab El Khatib, Senior Field officer for the missing persons department in ICRD Beirut delegation.
The second presentation was delivered by ICRC psychologist Ms. Roubina Tahmazian, who has contributed in the development of the ICRC “Accompaniment of Missing Persons’ Families”, started in 2015. Ms. Tahmazian’s session focused on the psychological difficulties and challenges of families of missing persons and elucidated the outline of the psycho-social intervention program, illustrating her talk with poignant examples of her interactions with the families throughout her field experience in Armenia.
