BEIRUT, Friday, September 19, 2008- Some 130 students followed a thorough three-day-orientation program at Haigazian University, a program designed to introduce new students to all aspects of university life, be it academic, communal, spiritual and social.
The program kicked off on Wednesday, September 17 with the welcoming words of Dr. Berge Traboulsi, Director of the Orientation Program.
Several faculty and staff members had their share during the opening session, "the American educational system, the diverse student body, the small campus and student body, and the serious academic program, are what make Haigazian special," noted Rev. Dr. Paul Haidostian, President of the University.
The Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Dr. Arda Ekmekji invited the new recruits to rely on Haigazian University's solid foundations, considering the university the ultimate place to polish rough ideas and beliefs. Moreover, she urged them to think universally and act locally, thus applying universal thoughts and ideas to our local communities.
The Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration and Economics, Dr. Fadi Asrawi, highlighted the strengths of the field of Business at Haigazian, whereby students are trained to become the leaders of the future. "The education at Haigazian University is carried out in a nurturing environment, which takes into consideration the student as a whole entity, mind, heart and spirit," Asrawi said.
Then, Students attentively followed the presentations of the Student Life Office, which encouraged them to be active in University life by being members in the various clubs and extracurricular activities.
Students had also the opportunity to meet with the new Campus Minister, Rev. Greg Lee-Parker, who showed great enthusiasm in joining Haigazian University. Lee-Parker expressed his readiness to offer his spiritual counseling, in addition to answering all questions in life that might occur to students' minds.
Since the Orientation Program is a required course in itself, new students attended sessions on Academics, Haigazian Culture, Information Technology, Laboratories, Counseling, and effective use of Library resources.
Finally, all new comers enjoyed a friendly brunch with faculty and staff.
