Haigazian University Board of Trustees Meets in Beirut
Haidostian: Every meeting of the Board is an occasion for the renewal of the original vision of the founders of Haigazian
Beirut, 12/05/2008- After an interruption of two years due to the unstable political situation in Lebanon, the Haigazian University Board of Trustees met in Beirut, on May the 1st, for 2 consecutive days.
Out of the 15 Board and ex-officio members in the United States, 13 were present, and many of them accompanied by their spouses. This demonstrated the Board’s strong bond and sense of duty towards Haigazian University and its development plans, in addition to instilling their belief and trust in the rebirth and stability of Lebanon. They were welcomed by the six local members and the University administration.
During the intensive two days meetings, many topics and issues related to academic and development plans were covered. The Board undertook new steps for academic development, including appointments and the establishing of new positions. In addition, it formed new sub-committees specialized in Finance, Legal Matters, and Development. Concerning the physical expansion plan of the University, updates were given regarding the new Heritage Building construction, and its ongoing fundraising campaign. A preliminary plan of activities and events was set to celebrate the 55th anniversary of the University in 2010 in the United States, Lebanon, and the Gulf region. On the academic level, the Board announced the start of a new scholarship program, “Full Merit Scholarship”, which will offer a 100% merit scholarship, each year, to 3 new applicants with outstanding academic performance.
During their short stay, the Board members, accompanied by their spouses, had the opportunity to enjoy sight seeing tours, gatherings and dinners, specially organized for them by the University.
On the evening of May 1, 2009, University President, Rev. Dr. Paul Haidostian hosted a dinner of fellowship, in the La Marina Yacht Club, Dbaye, where the University Service Shield was bestowed upon H.E. Mrs. Leila Solh Hamade, the vice President o the Al Waleed Bin Talal Foundation.
In attendance were the Board of Trustees led by Chairman Mr. Herair Mouradian, the President of the AMAA, Dr. Hrair Aharonian, the President of the UAECNE, Rev. Megerdich Karageuzian, the Deans and Administrative Staff members, in addition to Haigazian University partners, the US Ambassador, Mrs. Michele Sison, the Armenian Ambassador Mr. Roupen Kharazian, as well as special friends of the University, cabinet Ministers Jean Oghasabian and Alan Tabourian, and MP Dr. Bassem Shabb.
President Haidostian considered that “every meeting of the Board is an occasion for the renewal of the original vision of the Founders of Haigazian”, emphasizing on the fact that training of leaders and of servants of society was always high on their agenda.
Haidostian also highlighted the rich identity of Haigazian University. “Haigazian University is very strongly endowed. There is the suffering-rebirth of the Armenians; the rebuilding of lives and communities in Lebanon; the American dream of the first supporters and founders, the dream of not simply succeeding, but succeeding for the purpose of helping people back,” Haidostian noted.
