To protect and enhance our air quality and to contribute to the health and well being of all HU community,
Haigazian University shall be smoke free effective September 1, 2010.
Additionally, the use of all tobacco products are banned from the campus, except as designated in this policy.
Smoking is prohibited in all of the areas within the University campus. This includes common work areas, classrooms, offices, conference and meeting rooms, hallways, basements, roofs, cafeteria, restrooms, as well as other enclosed facilities, in addition to the courtyards and the gardens all across the campus.
The only two designated areas in the campus are outdoors, the first area being near the Business Building entrance, behind the Mugar Building and the second in the Mehagian courtyard, at the corner facing the Admissions Office entrance. The designated areas are color-coded by grey benches and surrounded with green plants.
While the University makes these areas available to smokers, no additional breaks are allowed to those who smoke. Finally, smokers must dispose of the remains in the proper containers. This helps to keep a neat and clean environment for all community and our visiting guests.
Failure to comply with all of the components of this policy will result in disciplinary action that can lead to and include official warnings and appropriate disciplinary measures.
This policy recognizes that smoking and passive smoking adversely affect our health, so we kindly invite you to cooperate in raising awareness and advocating for a healthier community.
