New Students Follow a Thorough Orientation Program at Haigazian University
Beirut, Thursday, September 20, 2012 - Around 220 students followed a thorough three-day-orientation program at Haigazian University, a program designed to introduce new students to all aspects of university life, be it academic, communal, spiritual and social.
The program kicked off on Monday, September 17 with the greeting words of the new Campus Minister, Rev. Bruce Schoup. In his address to the newly enrolled students, Schoup engaged students to take the most advantage of their 4-year journey at Haigazian, to learn, try and experience.
University President, Rev. Dr. Paul Haidostian, welcomed students to a new phase in their life, emphasizing on the fact that each one of them will have his own journey, marking his own path. He considered them lucky enough as the year of their graduation will coincide with the University’s 60th Anniversary.
Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Dr. Arda Ekmekji stated that a Liberal Arts education system, in general, provides students with a complete rounded education, and Haigazian University in particular, provides an education with conscience.
Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration and Economics, Dr. Fadi Asrawi, told the students that Haigazian University’s education is a preparation for “lifetime learning”, stressing on the fact that “education will definitely prepare you for a career, but most importantly to life”.
Registrar Anahid Fermanian provided the students with academic announcements and policies and procedures, after which Alumnus Raffi Feghali from the class of 2006, shared his experience of University years. Feghali urged students to be active in clubs and community service, considering that he “equally learned from outside the class than inside.”
Orientation Program Director, Dr. Berge Traboulsi thanked all program participants for their relentless efforts and input and wished the new students a smooth transition from school to University life.
Since the Orientation Program is a required course in itself, new students attended sessions on Academics, Haigazian Culture, Information Technology, Laboratories, Counseling, Spiritual Life, and effective use of Library resources.
All new comers enjoyed a friendly brunch with faculty and staff.
