Organized by Haigazian University’s Alumni office, cellist Shushan Artinian and pianist Maria Palazian beautifully performed a duet concert on Sunday, Nov 4, 2012 at the First Armenian Evangelical Church, adjacent to the University. In attendance were members of the Haigazian University community, friends and music-appreciators.
The ambitious and well-planned program included works by Johannes Brahms, Sergei Rachmaninoff, Luigi Boccherini, Frédéric Chopin, Johann Sebastian Bach, Gabriel Faure, Astor Piazzolla and Alexander Harutyunian.
Shushan Artinian comes from a musical family. At the age of 5 she started taking piano lessons with her mother Mrs. Roubina Artinian.
She switched to cello at the age of 7 and attended the Lebanese National Higher Conservatory of Music from where she graduated and received her Baccalaureate degree with high distinction. She performed in the Lebanese National Symphonic Orchestra during Placido Domingo’s appearance in Baalbeck International Festival in 2004. She earned her B.S. degree in Biology along with her teaching diploma in 2007 from Haigazian University where she actively participated in the music club’s concerts. She holds an M.S. degree in Physiology from the American University of Beirut. Since 2011, she is the cello instructor in the Parsegh Ganatchian College of Music.
Maria Palazian born in Ainjar, Lebanon. She graduated from the Armenian Evangelical College in 2007 and graduated from Haigazian University majoring in Education with an emphasis on Science. Maria started her preliminary piano lessons at the age of five and attended Tekelian Music School in Beirut. She then continued her studies in the Lebanese National Higher Conservatory of Music from where she graduated in 2011, receiving a Baccalaureate degree with distinction. Since 2005, Maria has accompanied the “Dsirani” choir and the world renowned “Fayha” choir with whom she had concerts in Tunisia, Abu Dhabi and France. In 2008 she participated in the Margo Babikian Competition and was ranked third.
The much-appreciative audience enjoyed this 70-minute concert, wishing the two young Haigazian alumna much success in their musical career.
