Inspirations from Gumri
Six artists from the reborn city of Armenia in Haigazian University
On February 28, 2013, under the high patronage of the Armenian Embassy in Lebanon, opened the group exhibition entitled “Inspirations from Gyumri”, featuring 66 recent works of six artists from the reborn city ofArmenia.
University President, Rev. Dr. Paul Haidostian welcomed the crowd of art lovers, stressing on the importance of art in preserving the Armenian heritage and culture. He also shared the importance of the city of Gyumri, as the second city of Armenia, after the capital Yerevan, and its input in the Armenian cultural life in general.
In his turn, Armenian Ambassador to Lebanon, H.E. Mr. Ashod Kotcharian explained how the city of Gyumri was reborn after the terrible earthquake which hit it in 1988, destroying it completely. After 25 years of the disaster, Gyumri is nominated the CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States) Cultural Capital 2013.
The exhibition features 66 works of 6 artists, headed by the Director of the Gyumri Academy of Arts, Artist Hambardzum Ghukasyan, along with Vahagn Ghukasyan, Arpine Hambaryan, Tatevik Hartenyan, Garik Manoukyan, and Artak Pilosyan.
Ghukasyan, who came specifically for the opening, expressed his gratitude towards Haigazian University, for their initiative to show and promote Gyumri’s art in the Armenian Diaspora. He aslo thanked the founder and benefactor of Gyumri’s conservatory, Mr. Harout Khatchadourian, and Mrs. Kohar Khatchadourian who was present at the opening.
