A comprehensive study of the different language skills: spelling, conversation,
vocabulary, grammar, and composition.

An in-depth study of advanced grammar, syntax, text analysis, proper phrasing,
foreign terms, and prospects of the Armenian language.

Basic grammar with emphasis on nouns, adjectives, adverbs, verbs, use of

classical Armenian and vice versa.

century C.E. to the present with special emphasis on grammar, pronunciation,

A scientific study of the political history of the Armenian people in the light of
international developments from the pre-Armenian period of the history of
Armenia to the invasions of the Seljuks, as well as the social, economic, and cultural
aspects of Armenian history (same as History 211).

A critical study of the political history of the Armenian people in the light of
international developments from the Seljuk invasions up to the Declaration of
Independence of Armenia in 1991. The course also presents social, economic,
and cultural aspects of Armenian history (same as History 212).

A history of Armenian literature from its beginnings to the Middle Ages. The
course encompasses the life and works of renowned Armenian writers of the
Middle Ages and the Renaissance; readings of selected texts, as well as a brief
study of the history of research done in this field.

A history of Armenian literature from the 15th to the 20th century. The course
encompasses medieval poets, hayrens, Sayat Nova, the Mekhitarists, the birth of
modern Armenian literature, Eastern and Western Armenian literature with
selected text readings, Diaspora and post-Soviet Armenian literature and their
future, as well as a brief study of the history of research done in this field.

Special topics of interest to students in such areas as Armenian language and linguistics,
to be chosen by the department.

Prerequisite:
A culminating activity required of all majors. The course involves the writing of
a thesis. It must be researched, prepared, and written under the guidance of a
member of the Department, meeting accepted standards of research procedures
and reporting format.
