Prerequisite: EDU 201:Fundamentals of Education
Guiding art experiences; State-of-art skill development, scribbles, basic forms,
first drawings, color selection, various art supplies and tools appropriate for that
age.

Guiding music and movement experiences: encouraging discovery, encouraging
non-participants, selecting songs, creating songs, teaching songs, introducing
rhythm instruments, and the various movement activities appropriate for that age.

Prerequisite: PSY 201:General Psychology, EDU 201:Fundamentals of Education
An introduction to the teaching of special children: disabled and gifted. This
course includes the study of various aspects of special needs and some instructional
strategies for the teachers and care givers.

Prerequisite:
A preparatory course which presents the basic elements of music: keys, signatures,
scales, intervals, chords, rhythmic notation, and form. This elective for
students with little or no previous training in music aims at providing a good
background for experiencing music as an amateur performer or listener. ( Not
open to Music Majors).

A course designed to familiarize students with the opera genre, its various
aspects, and its major stylistic developments. Significant works are surveyed
from the earliest music dramas of Monteverdi and Purcell to the operas of Berg
and Britten.

A detailed study of the adolescence experience (puberty to early adulthood). The
influence of psycho-social factors and peer group effects on identity search and
maturity, especially as related to schooling and academic achievement.

An understanding of the stress response (physiological, emotional, and cognitive)
and its relationship to well-being. Brief hands-on techniques for stress
reduction are practiced during class. Open to all students of Junior standing.

Prerequisite: SOW 201:Introduction to the Field of Social Work
The course is based on a thorough examination of the statutes of the
International, the Arab, and the Lebanese charters of the Rights of the Child. It
deals with such topics as the child in the family and group, the care of children
deprived of normal family life, standards and trends in various child care institutional
set-ups, legislation standard setting, and recent trends in child care.

Prerequisite: SOW 201:Introduction to the Field of Social Work
The course deals with theory and practice of social intervention with a focus on
the process of worker-client interaction. The ecological dimension of intervention
is also stressed by a review of the relationship between social problems and
social services. Junior standing.

A survey and a critical study of the many genres of literature that exist for preschool
and elementary children. Includes examination and discussion of what
makes a book "good" and/or appropriate, the differences in the writing for various
age groups, and the methods of teaching children?s literature.

The study of the physical, emotional, and social characteristics and development
of the young child; Physical:from inborn reflexes to coordinated small muscle
movements, influence of nutrition; Emotional: affective states, fears and worries,
attachment and security, personality and temperament, the self, autonomy and
esteem; Social: the family, peers, school, media, gender concept, and morality.

Introduction to the principle ideas of the discipline of education. It will address historical,
philosophical, psychological, structural, and social foundations of education.

Basic descriptive and inferential statistics as applied to the social and behavioral
sciences. Concepts are presented in the context of research reporting format. Not

Introduction to the mechanics of writing the research report and training in the
analysis of research literature.

Orients student teachers to the teaching profession and facilitates the development of knowledge, skills, and attitudes where they acquire fuller understanding of the principles and techniques related to a successful teaching career. A study of the modern principles of education and their application in preschool,
elementary, and secondary schools. Includes examination and discussion
of teaching procedures and techniques, classroom management, feedback analysis,
questioning techniques, for effective classroom teaching.

An introduction to the various techniques of evaluation with emphasis on their
advantages and disadvantages. A practice in the construction of classroom tests
of the objective and the subjective types. Item analysis for content, difficulty,
and discriminability is also included.

An introduction to the field of guidance and counseling. The role of the counselor
in school and community settings. The skills required for efficient counseling.

projector, video, audio, Internet, CD Rom, T.V., theater, cinema, camera &

An in-depth examination of and critical inquiry into a selected topic in education. It synthesizes curricular issues, including the socio-cultural context of teaching and learning, content area instruction, instruction for diverse populations, classroom management, and assessment. An introduction to the various fields of Psychology in which students will
explore the diverse theories and psychological schools. Special attention is given
to current research and findings with emphasis on the scientific method as a
mode of thinking.

An in-depth examination of the latest research/date and trends in the field of
ECE: improvement of teaching techniques in the first six years of life, development
of cognitive abilities, success in working with special education children,
understanding the physical, intellectual, social, and emotional characteristics of
young children.

Study of administrating and planning for ECE programs in infancy, toddlerhood,
pre-school including nursery schools, kindergarten and day-care centers. Special
attention to creating and designing programs for children from birth to age six.

A critical view of planning a curriculum, developing curriculum goals, meeting
goals, theme ideas, theme length, studying learning styles, learning characteristics,

This course examines the goals of early math and science experiences as well as
assessing math and science ability, equipment, content and activities. Students
will plan lessons that are developmentally appropriate practices. Students will
have 10 field hours.

Examination of the methods and materials for developmentally appropriate practices in teaching language arts and social studies to young children; includes strategies for promoting social skills development through making puppets and highlighting the importance of play in learning.Students will have 10 field hours.

The course deals with skills necessary for care practice in day programs and setups. Special emphasis is placed on the arrangement of physical premises as well as on the selection of toys and equipment with regards to their
appropriateness and safety from a developmental perspective. The setups
examined include family service centers, basic services centers, day camps and co-curricular activities in schools. Junior Standing
