History

Since the inception of Haigazian College, a number of clubs and sports teams were formed under the umbrella of Student Life. In the early 1960s a Student Cabinet (SC) was formed. It regulated and coordinated all student and sports activities on and off campus, and was concerned with student well being and student affairs.
During the early war years few sports teams and ceremonial activities were maintained. In the early 1990s, with the end of the Lebanese war, Student Life was reinvigorated. In line with the improvement of the country's security situation, the HU student population increased and became more active. Several clubs and sports teams were reactivated after the University returned to its original location in 1997 due to the increase in the number of students and the availability of space.
A part-time assistant Student Social Activities Coordinator was recruited in 1998. In 2001 the position of Assistant Director of Student Life was established. In 2002 the position of a Sports Coordinator was established to run the expanding activities of the University sports teams. In 2005 the position of a part-time Student Resources Coordinator was established.
In the past 15 years Student Life underwent a significant evolution. Its organization was enhanced, the structure of clubs, societies and teams was formalized. Camping, overnight workshops and brainstorming sessions were held to assess and plan Student Life activities on an annual basis. The scope and extent of the activities became broader and extended beyond the campus parameters. Furthermore, more efforts were directed toward the full implementation of the mission of the Student Life in disseminating tolerance, building up personality and character, developing social skills and providing students with opportunities to experience marketplace conditions and real life.
During the past five decades several clubs, societies and sports teams phased out and reappeared reflecting the diverse and changing interests and hobbies of the student population.
The story of Student Life at Haigazian University reflects the recurring pattern of endurance, survival, revival and growth.
