Dealing with the Past, Memory for the Future

In collaboration with the Office of the High Commission of Human Rights (OHCHR), Haigazian University participated in a project entitled Dealing with the Past, Memory for the Future.

The project’s aim was to address the issue of forced disappearance during the Lebanese Civil War between 1975-1990 and to draw lessons that would prevent such events from ever recurring in this country.

The project developed further and led to the publication of three volumes entitled Dealing with the Past Memory for the Future the first being A Compilation of Haigazian University Project Submissions by Haigazian students, and the other two, MA theses submitted to the Faculty of Social and Behavioral Sciences (Psychology Department) by Noura Amikah titled The Narratives of the Survivors of the Beirut Port Blast in Relation to their Recollections of Past Tragedies in Lebanon (advisor: Rita Merhej); and Reem Rehimi titled Anxiety, Depression, and Persistent Complex Bereavement Among the Families of the Enforced Disappeared and Deceased during the Lebanese Civil War (advisor: Dr. Hanine Hout).
