Beirut, 21/11/2018 – Haigazian University celebrated the 75th Anniversary of the Lebanese Independence, at an event which brought together a capacity audience of students, faculty, staff and University friends. To mark this special occasion, Governor of Beirut, Judge Ziad Chebib was invited as keynote speaker.
University President, Rev. Dr. Paul Haidostian addressed the audience focusing on the major messages and virtues conveyed in the Lebanese National Anthem. Haidostian highlighted the notion of culture, citizen’s development and advancement, maintaining consistency between talks and deeds, and the importance of service. He concluded by putting particular emphasis on the symbol of the “cedars”, namely its glory and through it the glory of the Creator.
In his keynote address to the students, Governor Chebib praised Haigazian University’s role in educating the youth by embodying the values of the Independence, the importance and priority of citizenship despite religious and denominational differences, the importance of being independent through being responsible and accountable towards oneself and the country, in addition to further strengthening their sense of belonging and service to their country Lebanon.
This student-led event was namely organized by the Heritage, UNESCO and Art Clubs. It included Lebanese food served on campus, Lebanese traditional dance performances (Dabke), in addition to national and patriotic songs and melodies.
The event concluded with the opening of an art exhibit in the Mugar building, featuring 30 paintings embodying the meaning and the message of the independence, with the participation of high school students from 13 different Lebanese schools.
