Under the High Patronage of the Consul General of Lebanon in Los Angeles, H.E. Mrs. Mirna Khawly, Roupen Avsharian presented his book of two volumes “On the Record: Armenian Deputies in Lebanese Parliaments from 1922 to 2017”, published by Haigazian University Press.
The event which was jointly organized by the Armenian Studies Program at California State University, Northridge (CSUN) and Haigazian University, Beirut (HU), and was co-sponsored by the Armenian Bar Association, took place at the Glendale Central Public Library, on Thursday the 11th of April, 2019.
Several speakers took part in the event before Avsharian thoroughly presenting his book.
CSUN Armenian Studies Program Director, and Haigazian University Board Member, Dr. Vahram Shemmassian, highlighted on the meticulous research and analytical mind of the author, underscoring the significant input of the Armenian community to Lebanon.
For her part, Consul Khawly expressed her gratitude towards the organizers, acknowledging that Armenia and Armenians have a special place in her heart and mind.
Last to speak was Dr. Hasmig Baran, Chairperson of the Haigazian University Board of Trustees, and Lecturer of Armenian Studies at CSUN, who briefed about HU, and namely its Center of Armenian Diaspora Studies.
The presentation was followed by an interactive Q & A session, reception and book signing.
It is worth noting that all proceeds from the sales were directed to HU’s scholarship funds, as per the author’s request.
On the Record: Volumes I and II are the culmination of research and analysis of the Official Minutes of the Lebanese Chamber of Deputies published by the Lebanese Parliament and the Official Gazette of Grand Liban and later the Republic of Lebanon. Both volumes contain detailed information extracted from the general proceedings of more than 2,400 ordinary and extraordinary meetings of the parliament and provide the reader with more than 215 tables with comprehensive data and reference covering the different aspects of the involvement of the Lebanese-Armenian Deputies in Lebanese legislative life from1922 until 2017.
