Haigazian University expresses its condolences to the family and friends of a prominent Haigazian University alumnus, prominent business leader and philanthropist, Mr. Aso Tavitian, who passed away in the USA on April 21, 2020 at age 80.
Born in Bulgaria, he completed his freshman year at Haigazian University in Beirut in 1961. He then moved to New York to continue his education at Columbia University. Tavitian had co-founded Syncsort Inc. and was its CEO from 1975 until April of 2008. The company continues to play a major role in the development of the software industry in general, producing products that optimize data integration for business.
As a major contribution to humanitarian efforts, Mr. Tavitian founded the Tavitian Foundation in 1995. Among the main and strategic successes of the Foundation was the efforts to strengthen the governance of the Republic of Armenia. He established special six-month training programs for the staff of various Armenian governmental institutions. These programs were planned with Tufts University’s Fletcher School of Law & International Diplomacy, and hundreds of Tavitian Scholars from Armenia benefited, as they returned to their homeland to put their newfound knowledge into practice.
Haigazian University honors the heritage of excellence and entrepreneurship that Mr. Tavitian has personified and thanks God for a life lived in creativity and service.
