Hagop and Anahid Terjimanian Memorial Fund for Haigazian University

In April 2024 an accomplished alumna of Haigazian, Anahid (Khanjian) Terjimanian, passed away in California. She was the wife of Hagop Terjimanian, an alumnus as well as professor at Haigazian (College).

Anahid and Hagop Terjimanian met at Haigazian, graduated in 1963 with a BA in History and English respectively, and married in 1966. Both were dedicated to teaching as a calling and not merely a profession. Hagop was professor in the Faculty of Humanities 1965-1977.

Anahid’s long years of teaching began at the Aleppo College for Girls and the Armenian Evangelical Emmanuel Elementary School. Following her move to the USA in 1976 the family settled in California. At first she taught in the Fresno area and after relocating to Montebello she taught in public schools, became the Los Angeles Unified School District’s Bilingual Advisor, and later an Assistant Principal until her retirement in 2009.

Anahid left her mark in pioneering the introduction of Armenian history, culture and identity as part of the Los Angeles public school curriculum.

We offer our condolences to the Terjimanian family, and especially to Anahid’s brother Zaven Khanjian, Executive Director of the Armenian Missionary Association of America. At the same time we express our gratitude to the Terjimanians who over the years kept the University in their hearts and contributed generously for the advancement of education.

Those who wish may make memorial donations to the Hagop and Anahid Terjimanian Endowment Fund benefiting Haigazian University, care of the Armenian Missionary Association of America (AMAA) 31 W. Century Rd., Paramus, NJ 07652.
