Haigazian University Successfully Concludes HUMUN 2025 Conference

Haigazian University proudly hosted the 2025 edition of the Haigazian University Model United Nations (HUMUN), a dynamic three-day event that took place from April 25 to 27, bringing together over 320 delegates from 20 schools across Lebanon for an immersive simulation of global diplomacy and policymaking.

Organized under the leadership of the Student Life Office and meticulously executed by a dedicated team of Haigazian students, HUMUN 2025 provided high school students with a unique opportunity to delve into the workings of the United Nations. Delegates took on the roles of diplomats, debating pressing international issues, proposing resolutions, and engaging in negotiations across a range of committees that closely mirrored real UN agencies.

Throughout the conference, participants demonstrated remarkable levels of diplomacy, leadership, public speaking, and critical thinking, as they tackled complex topics through structured debate and collaboration.

The simulation featured an extensive lineup of committees and topics, including:

• Historical Crisis Committee (HCC): Navigating the Vietnam War and Cold War dynamics
• UN Security Council (UNSC): Addressing the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the Serbia-Kosovo conflict
• International Labor Organization (ILO): Debating a 4-day workweek and combating child labor
• World Health Organization (WHO): Confronting anti-vaccination rhetoric and public health risks
• United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR): Responding to the forced expulsion of Artsakh Armenians and Ukrainian refugee repatriation
• European Union Council: Discussing the creation of an EU Army and strategic approaches to rare earth metals
• UNESCO: Strategies for preserving heritage sites under threat
• Arab League: Enhancing intra-Arab economic integration and global partnerships
• International Court of Justice (ICJ): Reviewing Russian allegations of genocide by Ukraine under the 1948 Genocide Convention

This year’s conference was not only intellectually stimulating but also a transformative journey for the participants. Beyond the academic rigor, students left with heightened confidence, refined analytical abilities, and a deeper appreciation for global perspectives. The diversity of schools represented at HUMUN fostered intercultural exchange and a strong sense of community among the delegates.

The conference concluded with a celebratory closing ceremony, during which students received participation certificates. In recognition of excellence, several outstanding delegates were awarded scholarships under the titles of Best Delegate, Diplomatic Delegate, and Honorable Delegate.

HUMUN 2025 stands as a testament to Haigazian University’s commitment to empowering youth, promoting global citizenship, and nurturing future leaders through experiential learning.
