HNARTI, the cultural platform dedicated to the exploration of Armenian heritage, in collaboration with Haigazian University, organized a commemorative event on Saturday, 29 November 2025, titled “Manoug Manougian: A Dream of Space Exploration.” The evening honored the life and scientific legacy of Professor Manoug Manougian, the distinguished Physics and Mathematics instructor at Haigazian College and the guiding force behind the Haigazian Rocket Society—the pioneering initiative that evolved into the renowned Lebanese Rocket Society during the early to mid-1960s.
Central to the program was the premiere screening of a new documentary produced by HNARTI, honoring the remarkable scientific achievements and leadership of Professor Manougian. The film featured interviews and testimonies from notable figures, including internationally acclaimed Armenian-Canadian actress Arsinée Khanjian; Joanna Hadjithomas and Khalil Joreige, directors of the celebrated 2013 documentary The Lebanese Rocket Society; and Rev. Dr. Paul Haidostian, President of Haigazian University.
The commemorative evening also marked the official launch of the book The Armenian Scientists, the Rockets and the Universe: The Haigazian Rockets (1961–1969), authored by the late Harout Chekijian, a Haigazian University alumnus and former member of the Rocket Society. Published by HU Press, the volume was edited by Dr. Antranig Dakessian, Director of HU Press and of the Armenian Diaspora Research Center at Haigazian University.
Testimonies were delivered by Dr. Dakessian, the brother of the late author Vazken Chekijian, and Rev. Dr. Haidostian, each reflecting on Chekijian’s dedication, the scientific aspirations of the Rocket Society, and the enduring inspiration embodied in Professor Manougian’s vision.
Attendees were further engaged by the documentary screening of The Lebanese Rocket Society, which concluded the evening’s program and provided a vivid audiovisual account of a remarkable chapter in regional scientific history.
