On Friday, February 13, 2026, the Alumni Affairs Office in collaboration with the Computer Science Department at Haigazian University hosted its first Computer Science Alumni Gathering, an evening dedicated to celebrating achievements, fostering professional engagement, and strengthening the bonds between alumni and current students. The event was held at the Matossian Gallery of the Mugar Building on campus and welcomed approximately sixty attendees, including alumni, current students, and faculty members. Additional participants from abroad joined virtually via Zoom, underscoring the department’s expanding global network.
The program commenced with the welcoming remarks of Mrs. Maria Bakalian, Development and Alumni Affairs Assistant, who emphasized the enduring value of alumni relations in sustaining institutional vitality and community building.
The President of Haigazian University, Rev. Dr. Paul Haidostian, reflected on the accelerating pace of technological transformation and its profound implications on contemporary professional life. He highlighted the responsibility of academic institutions to prepare students not merely to adapt to change, but to lead within rapidly evolving technological landscapes.
Mr. Shant Estepan (Ph.D candidate), Lecturer and Coordinator of the Division of Mathematical Sciences (Computer Sciences and Mathematics), presented a comprehensive overview of the department’s recent achievements, curricular developments, and newly introduced courses. He drew particular attention to the department’s distinctive Game Development course, an offering unique to Haigazian University, which exemplifies the program’s commitment to innovation and applied learning. Mr. Estepan further underscored the significance of non-academic initiatives, including memoranda of understanding (MOUs), specialized trainings, and community-building events that broaden students’ professional exposure and cultivate a cohesive Computer Science community.
The evening featured testimonials from distinguished alumni whose professional trajectories reflect the department’s enduring impact. Dr. Vahan Yoghourdjian (Class of 2009), Senior Software Engineer at Google, joined virtually from California to share reflections on his formative academic years, attributing much of his professional growth to the mentorship and rigorous preparation he received at the university. Likewise, Mr. Sinan Noureddine (Class of 2016), Technical Project Manager at Toter’s, offered a testimonial highlighting the practical competencies and leadership skills cultivated during his studies.
In a gesture of collective gratitude, the Computer Science alumni presented trophies to three esteemed faculty members – Mrs. Lena Karageuzian-Urneshlian, Mr. Ali Moukallid, and Mr. Nazim Noueihed – in recognition of their unwavering efforts and commitment in shaping their future.
The program also featured presentations of the final projects of the Class of 2025, showcasing innovative solutions and technical sophistication reflective of the department’s evolving academic standards.
The gathering concluded with a reception that provided ample opportunity for meaningful dialogue, networking, and renewed fellowship. The evening fulfilled its purpose with distinction, strengthening intergenerational ties and reaffirming the department’s commitment to cultivating a vibrant and connected academic community.
