Political Science Specialist Tigran Yegavian at Haigazian University

Haigazian University hosted a talk on “The Latest Armenian Issues” by renowned political science specialist Tigran Yegavian on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at the University Auditorium.

In his hour-long presentation, Yegavian focused on the transformation of relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Armenian Diaspora in the post-independence era, highlighting both challenges and emerging realities.

In this respect, he offered a concise analysis of the diaspora policies pursued by successive governments of the Republic of Armenia. He argued that both Armenian state institutions and traditional diaspora leadership structures have often suffered from a lack of long-term vision, limiting their ability to respond effectively to contemporary challenges facing Armenians worldwide. He emphasized the need for a renewed and innovative approach to conceptualizing and organizing the broader Armenian space.

A central theme of the lecture was the transformation of the Armenian Diaspora into what Yegavian described as a “trans-nation.” He noted that the demographic, cultural, and geographic diversity of Armenian communities across the globe has fundamentally altered traditional understandings of diaspora identity and organization. In light of these developments, he advocated for new frameworks of engagement, including the revival and adaptation of the concept of Hokevor Hayrenik (“Spiritual Armenia”), as a means of fostering cohesion and collective purpose among Armenians worldwide.

The lecture was followed by an extensive discussion and Q & A session, during which participants actively engaged with the speaker’s ideas, fostering a lively exchange of perspectives in an open, intellectually stimulating, and academic atmosphere.
