Haigazian University Proudly Celebrates Lebanese Independence Day Minister of Youth & Sports Dr. Nora Bayrakdarian Joins as Guest of Honor

Haigazian University proudly marked Lebanese Independence Day on Thursday November 20, 2025, with a vibrant and meaningful celebration organized by the University’s Heritage Club. The event welcomed the Minister of Youth and Sports, Dr. Nora Bayrakdarian, as guest of honor, and brought together students, faculty, and staff of the university in a spirited tribute to Lebanon’s enduring journey toward sovereignty, unity, and resilience.

The program opened with the thoughtful remarks of student Harout Mavian representing the Heritage Club, who reflected on the depth and significance of the national occasion.
“Lebanese Independence Day is a long journey of challenges and sacrifices,” Mavian said. “Our independence does not belong only to the past—it is a message of resilience that we must carry forward to future generations. It reminds us of our collective social responsibility and the importance of holding onto the rich diversity that defines Lebanon.”

Following the opening remarks, Minister Bayrakdarian delivered a keynote address that delved into the evolving meaning of independence in today’s Lebanon. She emphasized the need to build a responsible, accountable state rooted in justice and institutional respect.
“The new concept of independence lies in building a responsible state—one that can preserve its stability and sovereignty, respect all its institutions, and serve its people with efficiency and justice,” the Minister stated. “A responsible Lebanon is a state that prioritizes reform and upholds the rule of law equally for all.”

Addressing the students directly, Minister Bayrakdarian highlighted the essential role of youth in shaping the nation’s future.
“You are our greatest hope,” she affirmed. “Trust your country. Do not choose to immigrate. Your active participation in decision-making is vital, and your presence here is the truest expression of love for Lebanon—a Lebanon that is moving toward better days.”
She concluded by reaffirming the contemporary significance of this national celebration:
“Independence Day today carries deep and renewed meanings. It strengthens our sense of belonging and patriotism, reinforces the values of citizenship, and offers a moment to reflect on our achievements and challenges. Above all, it motivates each of us—especially the youth—to engage actively in governance and nation-building.”

The celebration featured a rich exhibition of historical posters tracing Lebanon’s evolution from Phoenician times to the present day, offering visitors a visual journey through the country’s complex and inspiring history. A touching video tribute to Beirut followed, honoring the capital’s resilience through decades of triumph and tribulation.

On this momentous occasion, the university courtyard came alive with national songs, traditional Lebanese dishes, and joyful student performances, creating a festive and uplifting atmosphere befitting the occasion.

The event not only honored Lebanon’s past but also inspired renewed commitment to its future—one shaped by engaged citizens, responsible leadership, and a spirit of unity.
