Nanor Karageozian, D.Phil.
BIO
Dr. Nanor Karageozian is an Assistant Professor and the Director of the Department of Armenian Studies at Haigazian University. She is also an ex-officio member of the
Haigazian Armenological Review Editorial Board. She works closely with Haigazian University’s
Armenian Diaspora Research Center and Derian Armenological Library.
Dr. Karageozian’s doctoral thesis, titled “‘Long-Term Diasporic Return Migration in Post-Soviet Armenia: Balancing Mobility and Sedentarism,” examined the immigration to and long-term settlement in post-Soviet Armenia of Armenians from well-established diasporic communities — mostly from Iran, Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, Canada, and the United States. As a doctoral candidate, she was affiliated with the following Oxford University research centers: International Migration Institute, Oxford Diasporas Programme, and Refugee Studies Centre. Dr. Karageozian’s M.A. thesis focused on the diaspora policies and policy-making process in post-Soviet Armenia.
Besides her academic and research work, Dr. Karageozian also has extensive editorial experience; she has worked as an editor of English-language print and online publications for various educational institutions and non-governmental organizations, including the Lebanese American University.

Armenian diaspora and homeland–diaspora relations; diaspora and migration studies; return migration and repatriation; social theory and its application to the study of (diasporic) return migration; diaspora policies and politics; ethnic identity and nationalism; forced migration and refugee studies; international development — in Armenia and the Middle East.
