Given the limited participation of women in leadership positions in higher education, this cross-national project has been designed to elevate the voice of women in higher education by supporting their leadership goals, as well as creating a network of advocates to support the goals of aspiring women leaders through the creation on of a WLC.
The goals for this project are: (1) to enhance the leadership skills of participants in the Women’s Leadership Council, (2) expose a wider audience to barriers and opportunities for women leaders, and (3) to create on-going collaboration between faculty members at ASU and Haigazian University that extends past the end of this project. The objectives to meet these goals include: (1) establishing a WLC, (2) Supporting WLC members to define their leadership visions, (3) enhancing WLC members’ leadership skills in the following areas: communication, relationship building, and goals setting, (4) facilitating activities for WLC members to develop an action plan for supporting women’s leadership, and (5) disseminating information on leadership skills and women in leadership roles to a wider audience (e.g., undergraduate students, graduate students, other faculty members).
This project also aims to disseminate information on leadership skills and women in leadership roles to a wider audience (e.g., undergraduate students, graduate students, and other faculty members). The WLC’s long term intended impact is to build a sustainable network of advocates for women leaders in higher education. Partnership between Lebanese and American academic institutions will also be enhanced by this work. Additionally, the Women’s Leadership Council will serve as a model of how future institutions may partner when focusing on larger, global university and gendered challenges.
